Broadfoot Defeats Thompson
By Telegraph—Press Association. Hastings, May 6. Jim Broadfoot (Auckland) to-night knocked out Cyril Thompson (Hastings) in the ninth round of a scheduled fifteenround contest for the light-heavyweight title relinquished by Artie Hay. Thompson had Broadfoot very shaky in the seventh and eighth rounds, but could not land a telling blow. Broadfoot came out much refreshed in the ninth to connect with a right chop to the jaw, Thompson taking the count.
Patrons of boxing can have no complaint as to the number of tournaments promoted by the local association. On Monday next Joey Thomas will make his probable last appearance In Wellington, when he is to try conclusions with Donovan. Thomas has settled all arguments as to his ability when he defeated Blay and created a mild surprise with the form shown. Five amateur contests have been arranged and these promise to provide an excellent preliminary to what should prove to be a good evening’s entertainment. Intending, patrons should not tlicat the box plan opens this morning.
