UNUSUAL PROCESSION

Three Two-funnelled Ships

Two-funnelled ships are not very numerous in Now Zealand waters, and it is unusual for three to be in port at Wellington on the same day. It is still more rare for three to leave within a few minutes of each other, but last. nigh*, three two-funnelled steamers, the Monowai, Mataugi, and Wnhine, all left port in under half-an-hour, and made a most unusual procession down the harbour. First went the big Monowai, her ninny portholes blazing with light, to be followed a few minutes later by the, comparatively speaking, tiny Matan. 1. and ten minutes later by the speedy Wahine. also ablaze with lights. It was a very rare event, and it will probably be some time before it occurs again.
