LOW-FLYING PLANE

Auckland Club Inquiry

“NO REGULATION BROKEN”

As a sequel to a complaint made, to the Auckland Aero Club that a pilot flying the club’s red Moth machine, Z.K. —A.A.L., was seen flying on Sunday afternoon at an altitude which was stated to be excessively low, an inquiry was held by the club on Monday evening. It was found that no regulations had been broken. It was stated that the area over which the incident occured was not thickly populated and that the machine was within gliding distance of suitable landing grounds. There is a club rule that members must maintain an altitude of 2500 ft. or more on the city side of Tamaki, but the Government regulation stipulates that pilots must fly over a populated area at a height sufficient to enable them to glide to safety in the event of a forced landing. .
