' Uruguay has been celebrating the centenary of her independence. Up to 1828 Uruguay was still nominally a Spanish colony, but in that year, through the mediation of England, she became a free and independent State. It was not till 1830 that the republic came, and this elevation was recently celebrated / *by a fine set of large pictorial stamps.
