Party Politics and the Slump
Sir, —The following occurs in a book which I fear is not very widely read: “He that hath knowledge spareth his words.” We could apply that passage to ourselves (especially certain politicians) during the present slump, or hard times. In this way half the talk one < hears is about the slump, and who caused it, and why, etc., and the talkers seem blind to the fact that anywhere other than New Zealand is in the same boat, and their knowledge of the causes is at times deplorable. “You wait till Holland gets in,” or “You wait till Coates gets in,” that seems to be theirone ray of hope. It would take more than a superman to right things on his own, but if we put our party politics aside, put on. our thinking caps in their place, and ceased to talk quite so much we should be helping an honest man to try and better the conditions in which we are placed.—l am, etc., FORMOSA.
