Concert Party Entertains VISIT TO INSTITUTE A party of about twenty-five visitors paid a visit to the Borstal Institute for girls at Mount Crawford,' Miramar, yesterday afternoon, under tbe auspices of the Honorary Justices Association, not only to inspect the trim, sunlit and scrupulously clean premises, but to give the inmates one of those rare musical treats which embodies in it something of hope for the future. The guests were met aud welcomed by Matron Eascott and were marshalled into tbe little concert hall at the extreme southern' end of the Fergusson building (named after the late GovernorGeneral nnd Lady Alice Fergusson. who took, a keen interest in the institute). The girls allowed manifest delight iu the entertainment provided for them, and well they might, for tbe singers were the elect of Wellington lady, soloists who sang as .well as though they were before a more discriminating audience. The vocal soloists were Alesdames J. F. Woodward, Stark. Wilfred Andrews, Lyle and Aliss Alyra Sawyer and Aliss. Ferris, all of whom contributed three items, such was the enthusiasm of the audience. Airs. W. Pringle also recited humorous verses in a manner that evoked the heartiest applause. At the conclusion of the concert Mr. I. Salek addressed the inmates, stating that they had to thunk Mr. B. L. Dullard. the Controller-General of Prisons, for permission to provide the entertainment, aud to Mrs. Salek was due the credit for arranging the programme which they had all enjoyed so much. He hoped I hat the girls would benefit by their stay at the institute, which provided for them such healthful and beautiful surroundings. good instruction, under proper discipline. On behalf ot tbe Justices, Air. Alfred Longmore, J.P., presented the institute with a dozen new gramophone records, which were received with tlie greatest glee. At the conclusion of the’ concert the girls gave the visiting performers three hearty cheers. A delectable afternoon tea was provided for the inmates nnd the guests, and later the girls sang lyrics set to the llltisip ot Alendelssohn’s “.Spring Song,” and gave an exhibition of modern calisthenics under the direction of the instructress, Miss Webber. During the ten adjournment there was an exciting barn-tub episode. with little presents for all the girls, out of which much fun eiimnntcrl.
