Vice-Regal. Their Excellencies the Governor-Gener-al and Lady Bledisloe yesterday morning visited an exhibition of paintings by Miss D. K. Richmond. Her Excellency, accompanied by Mrs. VaughanHughes, visited later in the morning St. Barnabas’s Babies Home at Khandallah. The lion. Sir Walter Carneross, Speaker of the Legislative Council, on his reappointment to the Council received the congratulations of the leader of the chamber, the Hon. Sir Thomas Sidey. Sir Thomas said he trusted Sir Walter would be long spared to adorn the high office he held. The Hon. C. J. Carrington, M.L.C., left for the nprth by last night’s Limited express.

Baxter, all c" .Auckland, are staying at the Hotel St. George. Mr. and Mrs. W. Kidston, of Christchurch ; and Mr. and Mrs. Charles N. Taylor, New Plymouth, are staying at the Royal Oak Hotel. Mr. G. A. Wylie was yesterday admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court by his Honour Mr. Justice Blair, on the motion of Mr. Albert Wylie. Dr. Percy Furnival, an English surgeon who formerly held a position of consulting surgeon to the London Hospital, arrived in Auckland by the Tofua from the Islands. Messrs F.. Keen and J. L. Lloyd, of Dannevirke; V. Degraeve, Belgium ; A. Beseme, France; H. E. Hassall, Wanganui ; L. Lichtenstein, Auckland; and J. L. McClnggage, Stratford, are at the Grand Hotel. Mr. G. Duuscombe, vice-president of the First National Bank, Chicago, arSydney in the course of an extensive tour. He will spend a month in the Dominion, and intends to engage in both trout and big game fishing. Messrs. A. E. Barker, G. Gheysens, H. T. Milnes and R. E. Milnes, of Christchurch; G. Blundell, Victoria, British Columbia; T. Miller, G. A. Taylor, A. J. Dotchin, P. Williams and S. H. Scott, Auckland, are guests at the Royal Oak Hotel. Mr. L. G. McDonald, inspector of post offices for the Taranaki, .Wanganui, Mannwatu, and Hawke’s Bay districts for the last six years, will retire on superannuation at the end of the month. He intends to live in the Waikato district. Mr. Paul Hoskins will be a candidate for the Wcllingtou Hospital and Charitable Aid Board at the Slay elections. Mr. Hoskins, formerly of the Post and Telegraph service, has been prominent in Roman Catholic movements in Wellington for over a quarter of a century past. Mr. AV. AV. Sutton, who has been postmaster at Ilawera for more than two and a half years, has received notice of transfer to Hastings. His place will be taken by Mr. J. H. Fletcher, now postmaster at Stratford. Mr. D. McCready, Eltham, has been appointed in Mr. Fletcher’s place. Mr. AV. J. P. Hodgkins, for eight years manager of the Bank of New South AVales in Auckland, has been granted leave of absence by the board until the end of the year, when he will retire on siiperauiiuation after 48 years’ service.
