ESPERANTO CLUB
The weekly meeting of the Wellington Esperanto Club took place last Tuesday evening in the Y.M.C.A., Mr, E. C. Jack presiding. Details were discussed in connection with the second Esperanto Congress, which will take place In Auckland at Easter. Tuition classes were formed under tne guidance of the more experienced members. In the second portion of the evening Mr. L. E. Dust lectured in Esperanto on “La Universe." Mr. J. Major, a Continental Esperantist, gave an address in Esperanto on technical words recently approved by the Esperanto Academy.
It was explained by the Fire Brigade yesterday that the low pressure which was met with when dealing with the recent fire in Adams Terrace was due to the fact that a lead was taken from the mains in Adams Terrace, the loss of head and friction in the long length of bose necessitating the use of the motor pump. The brigadesmen used the main in Adams Terrace because it was necessary to attack the fire straight away. Use of a main in another street more nearly level with the house required the hose to be taken through nearby properties. Pressure right at the mains was satisfactory, as was proved yesterday morning when tests showed pressures at the three plugs within 250 feet of the building varying from 70 to 100 lb. to the square inch. Parents of large families in France receive money prizes from a fund which provides 92 donations of £2OO each and 142 of £BO each.
