WINTER SHOW DATES
Manufacturers’ Suggestion LOCAL INDUSTRY POLICY A recommendation was made by the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association yesterday that the Winter Show be held from August 27 to September 12. These' dates would fall a few days after the Christchurch Show, and five weeks after Auckland. The matter was left in the hands of the delegates to the Winter Show Association. The draft of a letter proposed to be sent to the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, urging the chamber to formulate a policy that would give encouragement to the consumption of New Zealand goods was submitted. - Mr. L. R. Partridge pointed out that a large number of the members of the Chamber of Commerce were importers, and he doubted the wisdom of sending a letter of the nature proposed. What would the association think if the chamber asked them to support a policy of allowing overseas goods to come in free? Mr. A. Seed said there were many manufacturers who were members of the Chamber of Commerce, and if the letter were sent it would result in a “show down,” and they would know where the Chamber of Commerce stood. It was decided to leave the final draft in the hands of the acting-president, Mr. J. Abel, and Mr. A. Seed.
