SALVAGE DISPUTE
Fate of Japanese Vessels OPERATIONS POSTPONED (Bee. March 18, 8 pan.), Perth, March 13. An attempt to salvage the Japanese steamer Shunsei Maru, which, with another Japanese steamer, the Chofuku Maru, struck a reef near Point Oloates early In February, has been postponed owing to the difficulty of reaching an agreement with the owners. ■ , ' It is regarded as likely that the vessel will be saved, but the Chofuku Maru is in a hopeless position. The Shunsei Maru found herself in difficulties on February 7, and the Chofuku Maru went to her assistance, but also ran ashore, with the result that the crew of the rescuing vessel wore obliged to transfer to the other which was in a less parlous plight. No lives were lost. .
