CHILD DANCERS

Brilliant Work in Pantomime To many the dancing of the children in the pantomime, ‘‘The House That Jack Built,” will count as the most satisfactory and channing feature. These fifteen or twenty children, who range in age from six to twelve, are the pupils of Miss Jennie Prennan, of Melbourne, and reflect in their ability to dance in almost any form with professional finish and sang froid, credit on their teacher. The scene in the old toy-maker’s shop is the most wonderful opportunity provided from the children's corps de ballet. Here, when lights go out and the old man goes, the mice come out and play (the cat being away), and their frolics awake the playful spirit of every toy in the shop. Stiff little red-eoated soldiers emerge from a sentry box to do their drill; Folly (with a balloon) prances round in the gayest abandon; the sweetest of coloured humming tops twists and twirls (on tiptoes) until the clock-work runs down; a gay. sailor lad clatters a hornpipe in rhythmical of heel and toe; a jack-in-the-box bounds from his prison, and frisks round playfully; while the little Dutch quartet in Wedgwood blue, execute the quaintest of romantic clog-dancee in their wooden shoes. When the dance is but a memory, and Dame is forgotten, the pantomime of 1931 will be remembered through the dancing of the Prennan babies. Mra. W. Ivory and her daughter, Miss Leslie Ivory, left by the Port Victor yesterday on a visit to relatives in England. At the Lyceum Club last night, Wednesday evening’s performance was repeated before another lasge audience whose frequent laughter showed its enjoyment of the comedies presented. Associated with the club’s Dramatic Circle in these plays were Messrs. Charlton, Courteney and Oswin. Songs were contributed by Miss Dillon and Mr. Gray, the accompanists being Miss M. Dillon and Miss Packer.
