SHEARING TROUBLE

Strike Fracas on Train

DRIVER SQUIRTS STEAM

Brisbane, February 2,

The shearing' trouble is serious at Barcaldine. When the train with the shearers arrived there strikers attempted to rush the carriages. Stones were thrown and the windows smashed. The police, however, succeeded in keeping the crowd back. The crowd then turned Its attention on the driver. To defend himself he squirted them with steam. An ugly scene followed, in which the driver’s face was cut with a stone and many received sore heads from constables’ batons.
