Opposed by Railwaymen COMPENSATION LAW Exception to “the wage-reducing campaign being carried on throughout the country’’ was taken at the biennial conference of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants of ,New Zealand, comprising delegates from all parts of the Dominion, which met in Wellington yesterday under the presidency of Mr. James Churchouse. . The conference unanimously adopted the following resolution“That this conference of the A.S.R.B. takes the strongest possible exception to the wage-reducing campaign being, carried on throughout the country, which, ,if brought into operation, must impair, industrial efficiency, reduce purchasing power, and thus further impoverish the whole community. . “Further, we draw the attention of the Government to the madness of wagesmashing, which must inevitably be followed by the partial destruction of our farmers’ valuable home market, and an incalculable loss of national wealth, aud we would impress upon the Government the necessity of retaining a widespread purchasing power to maintain national prosperity; and that, should the Government desire an improvement in the finances of the country, such furthe,r revenue should be obtained by a tax’ on large incomes on a graduated scale. “That in view of the urgent necessity to remove anomalies and deficiencies in the present system of workers’ compensation for accidents, that the Government be strongly urged to again introduce the Workers’ Compensation, Act Amendment of last session with the object of its early adoption.”
