A message from Buenaventura (Colombia) states that a fire, believed to have been the work of an incendiary, destroyed the business district of Buenaventura on Monday with a loss of 5,000,000 dollars. Buildings occu pied by the Royal Bank of Canada, the Customs, Government, telegraph, and postal offices and three hotels and virtually every store in the city were burned.

Buenaventura, the most important Pacific port in Colombia, is the terminus of a railway system intended ultimately to link up with the Atlantic Ocean at Cartagena. The population is about 10,000. __
