Palmerston North, January 27.

After having completed 40 years’ service with the Post and Telegraph Department, Sir. Arthur F. Wimsett, senior supervisor of mails at the Chief Post Office, Palmerston North, will retire from the service on superannuation on January 31.

Mr. Wimsett joined the department as a messenger at Nelson in 1890, later being promoted to a cadetship in the circulating branch of the Wellington Chief Post Office in 1896. Three years later he was transferred to the clerical staff.

During his residence in Wellington Mr. Wimsett identified himself with the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association, and it was mainly through his energy and ability as organiser that the Wellington and Nelson branches were placed in a sound financial position. Mr. Wimsett was also elected vicepresident of the Wellington branch of the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association and represented his fellow workers at the Dominion conference of the organisation in 1907. He was elected also to the Appeal Board. From Wellington Mr. Wimsett was transferred back to Nelson and from there to Palmerston North in 1916, as senior supervisor of the postal branch. Two years later he became supervisor of the mail branch. Mr. Wimsett nt one time took an active interest in volunteering and served for eleven years in II Battery and a Rifle Corps, and also two years in the Ambulance Corps. Mr. Wimsett has held the position of secretary to many athletic bodies and at the present time is secretary of the Manawatu Bowling Gentry,
