Position of N.Z. Union

CONFIDENCE EXPRESSED Confidence in the present committee of the Port Nicholson Amateur Road Cycling Club (Inc.), and in its controlling body, the New Zealand Union of Cyclists, was expressed at a general meeting of that club, held last evening. Mr. F. Hoare presided over an attendance of 40 members. Mr. H. D. Bennett, the club's patron, explained the true position of the New Zealand Union of Cyclists. He said that all official statements made by the union had been unchallenged, and expressed the view that as they were actual statements of facts,'they could not be challenged. J. Foote and L. Roberts, two of the club’s cyclists, who are reported to have made application to the N.Z.A.A.A. for reinstatements, were present, and gave reasons for their action. Asked whether he definitely intended leaving the club, Mr. Roberts replied that he would still be a member of the club until the secretary received his resignation. The secretary informed the meeting that no such resignation had yet been received. Mr. A. White moved and Mr. W. Bray seconded: “That this meeting expresses confidence in both its present management committee, and its controlling body, the New Zealand Union of Cyclists.” This was carried unanimously. Twilight meetings will be continued as from Monday next, provided that thv club can finalise arrangements with the City Council for the hire of the Basin Reserve by that time. It is not yet known whether Foote and Roberts will be competitors at the meeting. Future track meetings were discussed, the chairman remarking that it was expected to hold a big Saturday meeting in the near futurj. AUCKLAND MOVES Reports from Auckland are to the effect that there is a possibility of members of the Manukau club, Auckland, taking similar steps to those of 'Foote and Roberts, but the position at present seems to be that the members of that club are awaiting the outcome of the February conference of the Union Cycliste Internationale, in France, when the whole question of the granting of a temporary affiliation to the N.Z.U.C. will be reopened.
