BANKRUPT GAOLED

£lB7 Credit Obtained

NOT CASE FOR LENIENCY-

By Telegraph—Press Association.

Palmerston North, January 26.

For obtaining credit amounting to £lB7 without disclosing that he was an undischarged bankrupt, Walter John Ladd, of Ruakura, Hamilton, was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment on each of four charges, the sentences to be cumulative, in the .Palmerston North Magistrate's Court by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M. The charges were that Ladd obtained £25 in credit from Ronald Arthur Beckett, of Linton; £34 from Levin and Co., £9l from Sydney George Northey, Palmerston North, and £37 from Holben and Hybbard Ltd. All the credit was obtained between January, 1927, and May, 1930. The magistrate said that the circumstances did not warrant probation, as the debts went back to 1927. He saw no reason why accused should escape imprisonment.
