SCHNEIDER CUP RACE

Further Hope Expressed RECONSIDERATION URGED (Ree. January 26, 8 p.m.). London, January 25. There is a possibility that pilots and machines may yet be loaned for the purposes of the Schneider Cup race. This is suggested by Commander Kenworthy, who said he personally was trying to arrange a contest in the North of England. In the event of arrangements being made the Government might reconsider the matter. The Society of British Aircraft Constructors has forwarded a circular letter to all members of the House of Lords, urging a reconsideration of the House of Commons’s Schneider Trophy decisions. They point out that the loss of the trophy by default would strike a serious blow at the export trade of the industry. Motion Tabled. The Prime Minister will be asked next week to give facilities for the discussion of a motion standing in the name of over 50 members, including representatives of all parties. The motion is as follows: “That this House regrets that the Government has expressed its inability to help in defending the Schneider Trophy and is of opinion that this decision should be re-examined.”

The Government decided on the score of expense to refrain from defending the Sehneider Trophy against France and Italy in September. In consequence, Royal Air Force pilots are debarred from taking part.
