KELBURN VIADUCT

Work on Last Span

Good progress is being made with the construction of the new Kelburn viaduct. The boxing of third and last span for the reception of the stoutly reinforced concrete girders is practically completed, and a start will be made with the bending of the steel reinforcements today. It will be "about the middle of February before the job is ready for the pouring in of the concrete. An idea of the appearance of the bridge is given by the finishing plaster work now being done on the first (Kelburn side) and centre spans. These are being finished in a light biscuit-brown tone in imitation of Sydney sandstone, which on the piers and balustrading of the side walls of the traffic way looks very attractive' indeed. Mr. W. Hodges, the contractor, who sustained severe injuries by a fall from the western side of the bridge a couple of months ago, came out of the hospital last week and is making good progress toward recovery.
