ENGINE ADRIFT

Shaken Off Outboard MEN THROWN INTO WATER Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, December 28. To have his outboard motor jump off his boat and tip him and his companion into the river was the misfortune which befel Mr. Tom Madge at the Boxton Beach on Friday. He was trying out a new boat, which had been specially made by his companion, Mr. J. Joseph, to suit Mr. Madge’s racing engine. The engine, through being'insecurely screwed to the transom, jumped off, and causing the boat to “snake,” precipitated both occupants into the water. The accident was particularly unfortunate for Mr. Madge, as.he had entered for three events in the Wanganui regatta this week. A cylinder of his engine, upon being immersed, filled with water and burst, and the owner may have difficulty in restoring his outboard to running order in time for the regatta.
