FILM INTERESTS

Important Developments A NEW NEWS-REEL Important developments are pending in the moving picture business in the Dominion, according to Mr. Stanley S. Crick, managing director of Fox Film Corporation (Australasia), Ltd., who came from Sydney by the Ulimaroa. Mr. Crick, who recently returned to Australia from America after finalising the purchase by the Fox Film Corporation of the extensive interests .of Hoyts Theatres Limited in Australia, arrived in Wellington yesterday to discuss with New Zealand cinema film exhibitors certain important proposals amounting to a reconstruction of the relations between the distributing and exhibiting interests. Regarding the activities of the Fox Film Corporation, Mr. Crick said plans had been completed for the production of a complete/full-length Australian and New Zealand mews-reel. Encouraged by the great success of the recording plant which was brought to New Zealand early in this year, the Fox Film Corporation had recently brought to Australia another travelling truck equipped with the latest plant. The new truck would be manned by Australians trained by the men who had operated the first camera car. The increased facilities would enable the Australian and New Zealand news-reel to be increased to approximately 1000 feet a week, allowing a wide variety of subjects to be covered. The new reel would start next month. In addition to this news-reel, and the two weekly international Fox movietone news features, it was proposed to release weekly a full-length Fox Movietone British News film. Mr. Crick said he also hoped to arrange with the New Zealand Government to pick out the “high-lights” of its scenic pictures so that every second week they could be worked into a “talkie film. He was hopeful also of arranging with the Government to provide portion of the weekly news-reel.
