Airmen to Go North To-day A bumpy trip across Cook Strait was experienced by Jlr. Oscar Garden and Captain Haigh yesterday afternoon. Leaving Nelson at 2.35, the airmen arrived at Rongotai at 4.10 p.m. Mr. Garden was flying “Kia Ora,” and Captain F. W. Haigh the Vacuum Company’s Moth. Having completed their South Island tour they will leave for Feilding at about 9.15 this morning. From there they will go to Palmerston North, and arrive in Wanganui during the afternoon. On Thursday they will continue their tour, going on to Hawera. reaching New Plymouth on Friday, and flying to Auckland and Whangarei on Saturday. RECEPTION IN MANAWATU Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, December 9. Mr. Garden and Captain Haig will be met at Longbum by three Western Federated planes and escorted to Feilding. He will land on the Feilding club’s ground at Paroronga and will be accorded a civic reception. The flyer will return to Palmerston North later by car, and after the new aerodrome at Milson will be driven around the Square to a civic reception in the band rotunda. After being entertained at lunch by the Aero Club and the Aerodrome Society, Mr. Garden will return to Feilding and then go on to Wanganui. SYMPHONY~ORCHESTRA Concert for Employment Fund An' opportunity to hear an unusually fine musical programme at particularly low prices will be afforded next Tuesday, and at the same time those who attend if will be assisting the Mayor’s unempioy-. meat relief fund. The entertainment is a special concert in which the principal part will be taken by the,.Wellington Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Mr. Leon de Mauny. An extra appearance of this accomplished orchestra this season will be welcomed by music-lovers for whom orchestral performances are all too few. Mrs. Wilfred Andrews, Signor Lucien Caesaroni and Mr. Bernard F. Page, city organist, also will contribute to the' pro-; gramme. The orchestral numbers will include “William Tell” Overture, the first movement of the “Unfinished Symphony, the “Faust” ballet music, and Elgars “Pomp and Circumstance” march. Mrs. Andrews will sing “Ave Maria” (Bach-, Gounod) with Mr. Page at the organ, and Signor Caesaroni will give “King Solomon a Mines.” Reserves may be booked at the Bristol. ' ‘
