Nadir Shah, King of Afghanistan, is confronted with a serious problem in Badakshan, the most northerly province of his kingdom, whore a young Robin Hood lias arisen. He is Ibrahim Beg, a tribesman, who is terrorising the province with' a force of brigands estimated to number from ten to sixteen thousand. The force comprises the riff-raff of various tribes, and absconders from law. All of the brigands are fully armed. Many towns and villages .have been sacked, and the inhabitants are fleeing to Kabul. GIRL SHOT DOWN Resistance to Raiders MONEYLENDER ROBBED Delhi, December 7. A fifteen-year-old Hindu girl was killed after a plucky stand against a body of armed brigands, who .raided a moneylender’s shop in a village near Lahore. The attackers were resisted by the villagers, two of whom were shot. Though wounded, the girl hurled bricks at the raiders till she was overpowered and shot dead.

Food supplies for a thousand men during their'two days’ march from Dargai to Chitral, were dropped from aeroplanes by the aid of parachutes. Fourteen aeroplanes delivered three tons daily, making four journeys from the base over difficult mountainous country. Forty-eight out of fifty-six parachutes loads were delivered safely on the first day, and every load but two on the second.
