Hutt Valley Gun Club

The first stage of the Hutt Valley Gun Club championships series vvas fired at Taita on Saturday, 21 birds off the 12yds. mark. Under perfect weather conditions some brilliant shooting was seen. In the championship series, four competitors: L. A. Caldwell, H. H. Morris, -E. Banish and A. Scott, all shot the possible of 21 birds, and had to shoot off for the trophy. The trophy was won by H. H. Morris, who broke 12 extra birds, E. Banish being second with 11 extra birds, and L. A, Laldwell third with ten extra birds. > The second match was a 15-bird one for a club trophy, and possibles were scored bv A. L. Cook, C. Moore, H. H. Morlis, and E : Banish. The shoot-off proved to be the most exciting yet seen on the club’s grounds, and 2a extra birds were necessary before E. Banish was successful in winning from Morris, who broke 24 extra birds. The final match of the afternoon was a double rise sweepstakes of ten birds, and again a keen finish resulted in four competitors tieing for first place with nine birds apiece, aud dividing the pnzem As ey a result of the first two matches a new club record was established by ±l. H. Morris, who during the afternoop in competition broke 72 birds straight: In the championship match he scored the possible 21, and broke an extra 12 to win the trophy. In the second match he scored the possible 15, and broke an extra 24 before the "law of averages" operated. The chief merit in this performance lies in the fact that he used the second barrel on only three occasions.
