‘THE BELLE OF NEW YORK’

•A full house greeted the performance of “The Belle of New York” at the Grand Opera House last evening. This famous production Is unquestionably the most popular opera that the stage has known during the past 30 years. ’’The young folk, wrote a critic recently, “who have neer seen ‘The Belle’ —but of course know the melodies quite well—are anxious to see what there is in this play to cause that ‘far-away’ dreamy expression to come Into their parents’ faces whenever ‘The Belie is mentioned, while the old people are not only waiting the opportunity of again listening to ‘The Purity Brigade’ and other ‘hits,’ but they are also eager to detect if the modern age’s ravaging hand has in anyway marred 'The Belle’s’ old-time beauty. Each artist is specially selected for the various principal parts In “The Belle.” Miss Roniola Hansen makes a perfectly delightful Salvation Army lass, and Sidney Burcliall is at his best In the romantic baritone part of Harry Bronson. Jim Gerald achieves an outstanding triumph as Blinky’ Bill, and Amy Rochelle us Cora Angelique. The clever young comedian, Don Nicol, is the Polite Lunatic, and Klssy Fltzgurter Is played by Dulcie Davenport. Miriam Lester will appear as Fili, Herbert Browne as Mons Frieot, Bernard Manning as Kenneth Mugg, Sydney 'Wheeler as Doc Sniffkins, Leslie Donaghey as Count Patsi.and Cecil Pawlev as William. Playgoers accorded Leslie Holland an enthusiastic welcome when be made his appearance as Icliabod Bronson, a character he has portrayed well on former occasions. Box Plans are now open at the Bristol.
