FORTUNATE ESCAPE

Motor-cycle Hits Train DRIVER SLIGHTLY HURT Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, December 8. A man named Spicer, employed as a workman on the bridge at the entrance to the Manawatu Gorge, had a narrow escape from death when his motor-cycle collided with the south-bound Napier mail train at the level crossing near Woodville. Spicer was returning from the direction of Woodville when he collided with the train at the crossing, which is particularly bad one on account of the proxmity of several trees to the line. Spicer and his motor-cycle were carried over one hundred yards down the line, but with the exception of a few minor cuts and bruises Spicer was unhurt. He was able to walk back to the crossing, but his motor-cycle was considerably damaged.
