CONFERENCE FOR WIVES.
Mrs. S. Webb’s Proposal A suggestion that the next time the Imperial Conferences is held the wives of the delegates should hold a conference among themselves was made by Mrs. Sidney Webb when she was proposing the toast of “The British Empire” at a luncheon at the ■ Forum Club, given in honour of the wives of the delegates attending the present conference. . “There are very many questions which our husbands do not understand,” said Mrs. Webb. “There are, for instance, questions dealing with maternity, children’s education, and housing, which we should discuss. Films are another question. I do not like the idea of American films, which show a very undesirable side of human nature, especially in regard to sex and love, being imposed upon the British public. I should like this country and the Dominions to have their own films.” (Cheers.) . A message from Princess Marie Douise, president of the overseas section of the club, regretting her unavoidable absence was read by Dady Moore-Guggisberg, who presided. Those present included: Miss Ishbel MacDonald, Mrs. Amery, Miss Bennett, Mrs, Ferguson (Canada), Mrs. Parker Molonev (Australia), Mrs. Berendsen (New Zealand). Mrs. Havenga (Union of South Africa), Mrs. Smiddy. Mrs. Costello (Irish Free State). Dady Squires (Newfoundland), Mrs. Wedgewood Benn (India).
