Hope for Legitimate Stage In response to the sixth “curtain" at the close of “The Belle of New York” performance at the Grand Opera. House on Saturday evening, Mr. Leslie Holland came forward to express thanks for the enthusiastic reception accorded to the piece and the company. “It is very pleasing,” he said, “to see the reception accorded to the old musical play. "I do hope that the reception you have accorded to ‘The Belle’ and also, to ‘New Moon’ is an indication of a swing back to the legitimate stage—to the substance rather than the shadow. (Applause.) It may interest you to learn that probably this company will return about the middle of 1 January with another of the old favourites, ‘The Country Girl.’”
