HIGH BUS AND TRAIN FARE
Effect on Local Business The Lower Hutt Chamber of Commerce has not yet considered the question of Increased bus and train fares in the Hutt Valley, but a member yesterday questioned whether it was a matter coming within its jurisdiction to make a protest against. In his opinion there was a possibility that the increased fares would serve to draw more business to Lower Hutt storekeepers, few residents being able to afford the expense of travelling to shop as they do s °While one cannot help but sympathise with anything that increases the cost of living to'the public, the chamber would probably regard with satisfaction anything that tended to give increased business to local shops. He made it plain, however, that the views he was expressing were merely his own personal opinion, and that they must not be construed as committing the chamber in any way.
