ORCHARDS INSPECTED

First-hand Information ENGLISH FRUIT EXPERT Dominion Special Service. Nelson, November 26. Mr. R. G. Hatton, Director of the East Maling Fruit Station, and the Imperial Bureau of Fruit Production, who is touring the Dominion, arrived here this morning from Wellington, and will spend until Saturday in the district. To-day Mr. Hatton visited the Cawthron Institute, and inspected the cool store experiments of the institute at the Nelson Freezing Works, and the field experiments at the Annesbrook orchard, and Marsden estate. To-morrow the Government experimental orchard at the Stewart estate and typical orchards in the Mapua and Tasman districts will be inspected, after which he will meet fruitgrowers at the Bluffs packing shed, On Friday typical orchards and gardens in the Motueka and Riwaka districts will be inspected, and on Saturday a conference of research workers will be held to discuss the organisation of experimental work at the Government orchards, and the formulation of a research programme. Mr. Hatton, during his tour, will be accompanied by Messrs. J. C. Campbell, Goodwin and N. K. Dallas, of the Department of Agriculture, and Mr. Cunningham, mycologist at the Plant Research Station, Palmerston North.
