THE SALAMAN CASE

’ Position of Patients

The conviction and imprisonment of/the Indian herbalist Salaman at New Plymouth is stated to. have given rise to an interesting question. Some ot baiaman’s patients who have been undergoing special dietary and other treatment apparently feel that discontinuance .of the treatment may have serious consequences. With Salaman in gaol for 12 months there does not appear to be any alternative. A committee is said to have been set up to make representations to the Government on the subject, and as a first step a petition from’ patients concerned is being prepared for submission ana signatures invited. It is an unusual position and has arisen in part from th<? belief that there is no one in New Zealand but Salnman himself ci;pable of carrying on the particular 1 form of treatment practised.
