HAWSERS FOULED
Auckland Ferry Accident / STEAMER DAMAGED Dominion Special Service. Auckland, November 24. When leaving the Queen’s Wharf at 6.45 this morning for Stanley Bay, the Devonport Steam Ferry Company’s steamer Ngoiro fouled the hawsers of the overseas steamer Turakina. and had the roof of her deckhouse partly torn oil. the windows on one side shattered, and the walls splintered and crushed into matchwood. The wheelhouse was damaged: the windows and walls were smashed and the door on one side was snapped in two. while the flagpole in the bow was split to the base. Captain Croll had a narrow escape. Everything about him was damaged, but he stepped out of the crumpled wheelhouse without a scratch. The Ngoiro was laid up at the ferry wharf all day while a staff of carpenters anil painters was busy repairing the damage.
