FIRE DESTROYS HOUSE
Gale Fans Flames OWNER LOSES EVERYTHING Dominion Special Service. Marton, November 24. On Saturday night a fire broke out in the dwelling of Mr. Alfred Kaye. Harris Street, Marton. Tlie brigade arrived promptly and confined the fire to the building, despite the heavy westerly wind which was blowing and the fact that the whole of the interior was ablaze. The outside walls and roof were left intact, but everything inside was completely destroyed. The total insurances are £715 on the house and £l5O on the furniture, all in the London and Liverpool and Globe Co. The owner will be a heavy loser, as the family have only the clothes they were wearing. The origin of tlie fire is unknown, but it is stated that investigations show that a fire was burning all day in an open fireplace in the sitting-room. Mrs. Kaye had placed clothing before the fire to air, but when the family decided to go to the pictures she removed the clothing to the side and placed an oven tray before the fire after pouring cold water over the burning logs. It is surmised that the heavy gale which was blowing created sufficient draught to rekindle the logs and cause the sparks to blow out on to the nearby clothing.
