NEGOTIATIONS FAIL
Work for General Motors
In the early part of last session Mr. Walter Nash, M.P., suggested to the Government that it might be possible to utilise some of the plant at the Hutt Valley railway workshops in the manufacture of goods required by General Motors (N.Z.), Limited. Following on this suggestion negotiations have taken place and tbe Minister of Railways, Hon. W. A, Veitch, in writing to Mr. Nash on the subject, says: “Further to my letter Of November 13 re r garding our undertaking certain work for General Motors (N.Z.), Limited, I desire to inform you that the matter of our doing the work suggested has been the subject of negotiations between the department and the company, but we have unfortunately not been able to arrive at an arrangement that would be mutually agreeable. The- proposals therefore, are not being further pursued.”
