HUTT RIVER BOARD
Moera Dissatisfied It was the unanimous opinion of tho meeting of ,the Moera Ratepayers’ League last week that the Hutt River Board ought to be abolished. Although drawing. rates from Moera, the board had done nothing to try to stop the flooding of the area, but was using the money it obtained from rates, royalties on shingle and rents to do work higher up the river Where it was not needed. , The • secretary drew attention to the large amotint the board received from rates from the whole of the Hutt borough part of the Hutt county and part Of Petone; as well as from shingle and rents from reclaimed land. The reclaimed land would in time become very valuable. “The Moera Ratepayers’ League.” said the chairman, “considers the, River Board ought to be abolished. It has done nothing for us. It is turning mopey away in refusing to lease, for aerodrome purposes Gear Island and Scabey Island. We should ask the board to resign. The members are not qualified to represent us.” It was decided to, wait for a report from Mr. Walter Nash, M.P., after he has seen the board.
