HUTT ORGAN RECITAL
There was' a fair audience at the excellent organ recital given by Mr. E. Douglas Tayler at St. James’s Church, Lower Hutt, on Thursday night. Most Interesting and instructive were the comments on the composers and music, made by the organist prior to the rendering of each composition. Two local vocalists, Mrs. Strickland and Miss Mona Carrick, sang pleasingly and the choir rendered two anthems. The programme was as follows:—Sonata in E Minor, First Movement (Merkel); SlcUiana (E. Calkin): Scherzo in A Minor (AV. Faulkes); choir, “O Saviour of the World”; Intermezzo and Scherzo from Eighth Sonata (Kheinberger): anthem. “Lift Up I’our Heads”; Andante from Second Sonata (Borowski); vocal solo. Mrs. Strickland: Songs AVlthout AVords (J. B. Calkin); “Imperial March” (Elgar); vocal solo, “The Praise of God” .(Beethoven), Miss M. Carrick; chorale prelude. “O Man. Thy Grievous Sin Lament” (Bach); Christmas, pastorale from “Light of the AVorld” (Sullivan): Nuptial Postlude (Guilmant); hymn, “The Day Thou Gavest.”
