DANGEROUS CORNERS
Insufficient Banking
Danger to motorists through corners on the Ngahauranga Gorge road not being banked properly was referred to by Councilor R. G. Mexted at yesterday’s meeting of the Makara County Council. He said that cars skidded dangerously at corners on the bitumen, particularly after rain. Thousands of pounds, he declared, were being spent on roads which would later on have to be altered to prevent accidents. He suggested that a protest should be forwarded to the Main Highways Board on the subject. The chairman. Councillor E. Windley, said the trouble was that the Main Highways Board had not carried out its own specifications. It was not much use the council forwarding a protest to the Main Highways Board, as the road had been finished. . * Councillor Mexted said it would be a good thing if a general protest were made, as it might prevent similar mistakes being made on other roads. Councillor J. Purchase considered that when roads were being constructed in a county the county officials should be consulted. ■ i\t the suggestion of the chairman, it was decided to write to the Main Highways Board pointing out that the corners on the Ngahaiirnngn Gorge road had not been banked properly.
