THE PETROL TAX
Share of the Local Bodies It was stated at Monday evening’s meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council that the M.P. lor the district, Mr Walter Nash, had been asked to press in the House of Representatives for 8 per cent, of the whole petrol tax to be allocated to local bodies. This Mr. Nash did, and he has made known to the council the result, of his representations. 'Pho Prime Minister had replied, said Mr. Nash, that the Government, required the’ whole of the sums from the additional petrol tax, and could not. give out more than had been allocated to the local bodies in the past. He gave an assiuanee, however, that the present allocation qt' the tax would only be to A arch 31 next, when the S per cent, would be reverted to. The Prime 3 mister said the whole question would then be seen iU Tho council decided that a letter of thanks should be sent to Mr. Nash fol his efforts.
