ASKED TO MOVE
Wakefield St. Property
COUNCIL TO RESUME
The City Council is anxious to secure possession of the education premises in Wakefield Street and Mercer Street at present occupied by the Wellington Education Board for administrative purposes, and by the Technical College Board of Governors for the art school and other classes. The office occupied by the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association is also included in the property which is to pass into the possession of the City Council, and the association will shortly have to find a new home. Mr. L. R. Partridge gave this information to the meeting of the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association last night, when saying that the executive would very soon have to look round for new offices. The Technical College Board had a request from the City Council on’Monday that it should vacate the premises in Wakefield Street as early as. possible. As soon as the new wing addition to the Technical College was completed the classes would be transferred there from the old buildings, which would then be handed over. As soon as the whole property was handed over the purchase could be completed and the Technical College Board and Education Board would receive the share of the purchase money due to them.
The question of other accommodation is to be gone into by the executive of the Manufacturers’ Association. When the education . authorities and Manufacturers’ Association vacate these premises the City Council will then occupy the whole of the triangular area hounded on the front by Lower Cuba Street, and on the two sides by Mercer and Wakefield Streets.
