Wanganui, July 25. . Mr. Hubert Carter, the well-known tenor, gave his seventh recital in the Waganul Opera House on Wednesday evening, to an appreciative audience. Wanganui school girls will hold their annual hoekey tournament on August 16 at Glenville Park. On Saturday Taranaki hockey players meet Wanganui in a match for the Norden Cup. The election of officers for the Wanganui branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is as follow:— Patron, Mr. C. J. Ross; patroness, Mrs. White; president, Mr. L. V. Kerby; vicepresidents. Mr. D. MacFarlane, Dr. Porrltt, Mrs. Wickham, Mr. Jones, Miss Mor-ton-Jones, Mrs. Innes; committee, Messrs. C. D. Bennett, Worry, Thompson, Mrs. Collier, Mrs. Thompson, Misses Mason, Remen, Marshall, Cash; hon. solicitor, Mr. A. D. Brodie; auditor, Mr. R. M. Finlayson. The following is the result of the election of officers for the Wanganui Museum: —President, Mr. N. G. Armstrong; vice-presidents, Messrs. G. Smith, C. H. Warden, T. W. Downes, C. L. Dufgan; Board of Trustees, Messrs. A. T. Cavell, H. A. Marchant, H. G. Drew, J. D. Anderson, V. B. Wills, E.-Barns, R. G. Firth, L. J. B.
