FARM COMPETITION
Judging Starts Shortly Palmerston North, July 25. . Details concerning the farm competition recently started in the Manawatu were discussed at a meeting of the controlling committee yesterday, when Mr. N. Campbell presided. A considerable number of competitors had entered, it was reported, and quite a number of the entrants were known to members of the committee as really good farmers. A study and comparison of their methods and results achieved would be productive of valuable information. Members were generally agreed that the competition' had been really well supported ; entries had been received from points as far distant as Otaki and Opiti, and this, with no special effort, made by way of personal approach. A letter was received from the Gover-nor-General, Lord Bledisloe, to the effect that he would be pleased to accept the position of patron of the competition. Various members of the committee had been engaged in obtaining financial support for the competition, and it was stated that local farming and business institutions were giving donations. However, further funds were required and arrangements were made to approach interests which, it was considered, could reasonably be asked to support the competition. The judging committee will commence the work of judging early in August, when the first round of visits to individual farms will be carried out. The committee consists of Messrs. D. Collis, O. Monrad, R. H. Spencer and R. P. Connell.
