WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
The monthly meeting of the Pahiatua Women’s Institute was held on a recent afternoon.
Mrs. Paterson presided, and between 70 and 80 members were present, including some from other institutes, and ( a number of the local High School girls who had been invited. \ Particulars were given regarding the exhibition of members’ handicraft and old and rare articles which is to be held shortly in Pahiatua, and for which members are asked to prepare articles of handicraft. Mrs. Paterson alluded to the manner in Which the institute movement is growing—the month of June being a record with tho formation of 15 new institutes —eight in the North Island and seven in the South.
The president introduced Mrs. Kelso, of the Paraparaumu institute, and late of South Africa, who gave an interesting leeturette On life in South Africa. Musical items were given by Mrs. Boyens, Miss Junker, and Miss Hoggard. Mrs. Paterson made a presentation of a small wedding gift to Mrs Cornelius (nee Miss Amy Russel), one of the members. who had done great work on committee —in charge of magazines and in charge of sales stall.
