FIRE IN SCHOOL
£l3OO Damage By Telegraph.—Press Association. New Plymouth, July 25. Damage estimated at about £l3OO was caused to the Central School, New Plymouth, to-night by a fire that broke out at about 6 p.m. . The origin was apparently a defective chimney in one of the classrooms. The flames spread rapidly through the rafters. It was two flours before the outbreak was subdued owing to the great difficulty in getting at the seat of the trouble. Four classrooms were practically gut ted, and water and smoke caused consider able damage to school books and fittings. The school is a large one, accommodating nearly 600 pupils. It is built of wood and is very old . The Education Department carries its own fire risk,
