44-HOUR WEEK
PROTEST BY BUTCHERS A resolution protesting against the proposal for a 44-hour week as put forward by the shop assistants was carried at the annual meeting of the Wellington Master Butchers’ Association. It was decided unanimously to write to the Minister of Labour “expressing strong to the proposal for a 44-hour week, put forward, by the New Zealand Federation of Retail Shop Assistants, and urging the view that if any alteration is made to the present Shops and Offices Act t should be in the direction of removing the existing restrictions on employers and trade generally, and not in the. direction of granting further concessions Io shop assistants, whose conditions are now fair and equitable from their point of view.” -
