FATAL DOSE OF POISON

TAKEN WHILE DEPRESSED Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, April 11. That death was caused by carbolic acid poisoning, through taking poison when in a state of great depression was the verdict returned by the Coroner (Mr. J. H. Salmon) this morning at an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mary McWilliam, aged 51, who died at Wanganui Hospital on the morning of April 8. A. McWilliam, husband of the deceased, said that he had given up his work at the timber yards to stay and look after bis wife, who had been ill for a considerable time. She suffered from delusions also, and arrangements had been made for her to enter a mental home. On the morning in question he had taken in her breakfast, and left her for a few 7 minutes to get a newspaper. “When I returned,” he . said, “I found her lying unconscious, and a poison bottle almost empty beside her.” Constable Wallace said that he had often seen witness helping his wife along the street, and-it was well-known that he did all he could for her.
