OBITUARY
MR. W. MOYES, FORMERLY OF NELSON Dominion Special Service. Nelson, February L The death took place at New Plymouth last night of Mr. William Moyes, who until his retirement a few years ago, was one of the oldest and best-known business men in Nelson. He was one of the oldest Freemasons in the district as well as one of the oldest Oddfellows, and always took a keen interest in lodge affairs, attaining the highest offices. He was a life-member of the Victory Lodge of Freemasons, of which he was Worshipful Master in 1892, the Victory Chapter and the Lodge Nelson in 1907-8. He was P.G.M. of the Nelson and Marlborough districts. The late Mr. Moyes was also a leading officer in the Loyal Howard Lodge, having been its valued treasurer up to the date of his death. The lodge's present solid financial position is largely due to the foresight and business abilities of the late treasurer and his fellow-officers. Mr. Moyes was district grand master for Nelson in 1892, and during many years was district trustee, which office he resigned in 1928 in order to take over the office of district secretary, which lie held until he resigned owing to illness. Apart from his lodge activities, the late Mr. Moyes, who was a Justice of the Peace, had been closely associated with the Nelson Library and Institute, of which he was a committee member for a long period of year. He was also a very old member of the Nelson Bowling Club, having been made a life-member. Nearly a year ago the deceased underwent a seriou operation and after leaving hospital he went to reside with his only son, Mr. W. H. Moyes, headmaster of the New Plymouth High School.
