THE OLDEST WOMAN?
MEMORIES OF IRELAND OF A CENTURY AGO London, January 24 Mary Buckland, of Ballycommon, County Tipperary, is believed to be the world’s oldest woman. She celebrated her 119th birthday to-day. ’ She has vivid recollections of outstanding events in Ireland, including the great storm of 1823 and the famine of 1847, and she travelled in the first stage coach between Dublin and Cork. She declares that no young of to-day will live to her age, as the late hours and amusements will prevent this. Unlike the aged man in “Punch,” she does not attribute her longevity to the fact that she was born in 1811, but to adherence to the old adage, “Early to bed and early to rise."
