WATERFRONT MYSTERY

NO FRESH DEVELOPMENT A FRUITLESS SEARCH Dominion Special Service. Auckland, January 2. There have been no developments regarding the mysterious disappearance of J. L. Davies, who left his home in Taumata Road, Edendale, on Tuesday afternoon, and whose coat ami hat were found on the foreshore near the King’s Drive on Wednesday morning. With Mr. Davies’ hat and coat were similar articles belonging to Mrs. Julia Cubitt, and a number of letters, in which both indicated their intention of committing suicide together. Almost at the same time that the letters and garments were found Mrs. Cubitt was discovered in an unconscious condition on the eastern tide deflector, having been apparently in the water. A further search was carried out to-day by the police of the water’s edge along King’s Drive in both directions, but no trace of Davies was found. The condition of Mrs. Cubitt, who was removed to the Auckland Hospital, showed a slight improvement to-day, and she was semi-conscious. She was still in a state of mental and general collapse, and the police have not yet found it possible to obtain any explanation pf the affair from her.
