DANGEROUS PLAYTHINGS

CHILDREN WHO TAMPERED WITH DETONATORS Dominion Special Service Palmerston North, January 2. Three of the younger generation in Palmerston North are fortunate to be alive to-night. While playing at the rear of empty business premises in the town to-day they found a box of detonators. When discovered later by an adult one of the children had thrust a piece of wire into the explosive: another was striking a detonator with a stone, while the third had actually bent one! As subsequent tests proved that the detonators were in good order, it is astonishing that they did not explode under the rough treatment they received.
