SOUTH WAIRARAPA MEETING

REVIEW OF TO-DAY’S FIELDS , (By “Overcheck.”) Tlie second and final day of the South Wairarapa Trotting Club’s annual meeting will be held to-day. Tlie usual convenient train arrangements have been made by the Railway Department, and given fine weather a successful day’s sport is assured. Martinborough Handicap. The three that appear likely to receive most suport in the Marthiborough Handicap are Victor Kyle, Marion de Oro. and Rector. The former contested the Bey Handicap on Thursday, .and was in charge for the major portion of the journey. Marion de Oro now meets Rector on 24 yards better terms, but the latter won with a bit in band. Taratnhi Handicap. Bessie Bingen, Pilot, and Laurier may be the order of favouritism iu the Taratahi Handicap, it appeared as though the firstnamed would have had a better ehauee on Thursday had she been sent along earlier in the race.' instead of allowing Great Glee to set the pace for her. She now meets Pilot and Great Glee on better terms. Carterton Handicap. Alexis, Aehray, and Gumdigger are a likely trio in the Carterton Handicap. Alexis did not go evenly on Thursday, while Aehray lost ground at the start. Gumdigger raced consistently, and should soon be first home. Mangapari Handicap. Hilltop, Bell Dial, and Polly’s Picture should give a good account of themselves in the Mangapari Handicap. The firstnamed finished on well iu second place on Thursday, while Bell Dial was fourth. Polly’s Picture did not race up to expectations on Thursday, but she should do better in the smaller field. Zella may be in the money if she is allowed to make up her ground more gradually thau she did iu the Cup. Featherston Handicap. Realty, Mountain Princess, and Item have the best form of those engaged in the Featherston Handicap. Tlie former lost a good deal of ground at the start of his race on Thursday, and yet was the only one to' get near Item. Mountain Princess is speedy, aud is in good order just now. Item won nicely on Thursday, but witli an even break Realty may reverse positions with him. Stewards’ Handicap. Pilot, Great Glee, and Peter Eyre may fight out the finish of the Stewards’ Handicap. The first-named ran creditably in the Summer Handicap on Thursday. Great Glee failed to do her work correctly in the Members’ Handicap on Thursday, and her showing was very disappointing after the excellent race she had trotted earlier in the day. Peter Eyre lost his chance on Thursday by breaking two or three times. He now meets Audo Spray and Miss Leda on better terms. The latter trotted a very lino race on Thursday, and her steadiness was the deciding factor in her victory. Greytown Handicap. Gumdigger. Alexis, and Lightfoot may do best in tlie Greytown Handicap. The first-named now meets Lady Author and Lightfoot on equal terms, and should hold both of them safe. Alexis did not race evenly on Thursday in the mile and a half race, but he may go better over a two-mlle journey. Lightfoot was.second on Thursday, and has been penalised 24 yards. Final Handicap. On Thursday’s form Logan’s Pride and Halinore look the pick of tlie Final Handicap. Of the others Item and Bell Dial may do best. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Carterton, December 27. Togo’s Promise (96yds. behind) was omitted from tlie Stewards’ Handicap iu the Trotting Club’s acceptances. HORSE IMPORTED. A thorough-bred horse, Dan Direct, arrived iXmi England by the Riniutaka yesterday consigned to Mr. Frank Smith, of Auckland
